The primary mission of the Sawtooth National Forest Fire Management Program is to provide a safe, professional, highly skilled fire organization that adheres to our values and principles to achieve superior results and services.
The Minidoka Ranger District fire program consists of approximately 25 firefighters whose primary purpose is fire suppression and fuels treatments. We pride ourselves in being a full-service organization and currently staff three engines, prevention technicians, and a fuels crew.
The Fairfield Ranger District has one type 6 engine stationed at Big Smokey Guard Station.

The Twin Falls District Fire Management Program operates the largest initial attack program in the BLM. This is due to our high fire load and frequency. We average around 60 initial attack fires each year and 90,000 acres burned. We have a large variety of initial attack resources that include 16 type 4 engines, 4 type 3 super heavy engines, 3 type 6 light engines, 3 water tenders, and 3 initial attack dozers. In addition to managing local initial attack, we strive to aggressively support large fires throughout the nation.
